Janmashtami

Krishna Janmashtami, is a significant Hindu festival celebrated to mark the birth of Lord Krishna, which was  celebrated on 7th of September this year. It is celebrated with great feelings of happiness and enthusiasm across India and various parts of the world. Janmashtami is a festival that makes people happy. It reminds us of the birth of Lord Krishna and his stories of bravery and goodness. As people come together to celebrate this day, they also learn important lessons about love, kindness, and how good things can win over bad things.

Krishna Janmashtami, birth of Lord Krishna. the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu,

He took birth in a prison cell as his parents Vasudeva and Devaki, were imprisoned by Devaki’s brother, King Kamsa.

It had been foretold that Kamsa would be killed by Devaki’s eighth child so to protect him self he put vasudev and devki in prison and started murdering every child of devki. However when lord Krishna  was born a mystical event unfolded. Every guard on duty fell into an unconscious state, which create an opportunity for Vasudeva to transport the infant Krishna safely to Gokul, a rural village Krishna was replaced by yasoda and nandlal ji daughter (Goddess Yogamaya. It was under Lord Vishnu’s request that she was born to this couple, immediately after Krishna was born to Vasudeva-Devaki. So she is considered as Lord Vishnu’s sister).

According to Hindu it is believed that lord Krishna born for several significant reasons.

To Protect Dharma, The Krishna’s birth was to restore and protect dharma, which refers to righteousness, justice, and moral order in the universe. To Defeat Evil Forces: specifically intended to counteract the undemocratic rule of his maternal uncle, King Kamsa, who represent evil and cruelty.

To Guide Humanity: Krishna’s life and teachings in the Bhagavad Gita provide great guidance to humanity. He advise on topics like duty, ethics, and the path to spiritual realization.

To Reestablish Balance: The preserver and protector in Hinduism, Represent when there is an imbalance in the world, and righteousness is under threat.

Just prior to Janmashtami, people decorate their houses with flowers and Rangoli to welcome Bal Krishna. People fast the entire day and engage themselves in decoration, community games, devotional songs and also make special swings for Laddo Gopal.

All the favourite foods of Lord Krishna are prepared and offered to him after his birth. On this day people do fasting until it’s time for Krishna’s birthday celebration. When it’s midnight – the time when Lord Krishna was born – people break their fast and share yummy food with friends and family. They also offer this food to lord Krishna at their homes and temples.

The exciting part of Janmashtami is the “Dahi Handi”. It is a game where people make human pyramids to reach and break pots filled with yogurt and butter. This is what Lord Krishna used to do as a mischievous child because he loved eating butter. This event brings lots of laughter and teaches us about teamwork.

Janmashtami is not only for people who follow the Hindu religion. People from different backgrounds join in the celebrations because it’s a joyful time that teaches good values like being kind and doing the right things.

As cow was loved by our Lord Krishna, so let’s promise we will participate to give away our unused green residues (leftover) to be shared with them!!

Remember – Our leftover can be a delicious food for our friends (Cow/Goat etc)!!
